Carlos Varela D.V.M., Hospital Manager

Dr. Varela is originally from Puerto Rico, he received his Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science at Louisiana State University.  After graduating Dr. Varela attended the School of Veterinary Medicine at Tuskegee University.  With his passion in Small Animal Surgery and Exotic Animal Medicine. 

Dr. Varela joined the Camino Al Norte Team as our Hospital Manager in November of 2009. 

When he has time away from the hospital... Dr. Varela loves spending time with his family, his wife Dr. Blair Anderson D.V.M., their Black Lab, Bear, Betty, their Bull Dog/Pit Bull mix, Duke their Miniature Schnauzer, and Twilight their cat. 

Yes!  He has adopted Twilight the security cat from the hospital into his family.  He and his wife Blair felt that Twilight should retire as our security officer and become a member of their family. 

We love Dr. Varela and all that he brings to Camino Al Norte Animal Hospital!

Scott Johnston D.V.M.

 

Dr. Johnston was born and raised in Western Michigan, he has also lived in Colorado, Virginia, and California before moving to Nevada. 

He attended the University of Virginia for his Undergraduate Degree and went to Vet School at Virginia Tech, focusing his studies on Canine and Feline General Practice.  As a Four Year Vet Student he earned the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) Award for Clinical Proficiency in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery! 

His passion for small animals went above and beyond the classroom!  He adopted a stray cat, named Murphy, and a Black Lab with Bilateral Cruciate Disease, named Nori, even before graduating! 

He is an avid skier and enjoys live music, gravity, and the limitless potential of the human spirit.  We love Dr. Johnston will all of our hearts.

Dr. Johnston recently added a new addition to his family.  Jasper a beautiful Black Lab puppy.

Erin Cantwell D.V.M.

Dr. Cantwell & Morgan 

Dr. Cantwell was born and raised in Northern Virginia.

She attended Virginia Tech for her Undergraduate Degree and went to Vet School at Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine.  She has a major is in Animal and Poultry Science and a minor in Biology.  Her interests are in Surgery and is passionate about Avian, Zoo and Exotic Animal Medicine.

Her Lab mix Morgan helped her get through vet school by letting her experiment everything she learn on him.  Morgan loves chewing bones and his squeaky toys.  She also has Mindy a Tuxedo Cat that was found in a driveway at about a week old, she bottle fed and adopted her.  Mindy enjoys lounging in the sun and knocking over glasses of water. 

Dr. Cantwell loves spending her free time with family, friends and cuddling with her fur-kids.  She enjoys Yoga, Hiking and Movies.

Sheila grew up in Northern California. She and her husband moved to Las Vegas summer of 2009 from Indiana, and does not miss the cold weather.

Her love of animals brought her to work in the field where she is now. Sheila and her husband have two Pit Bulls, Samantha and Lucky Dog, both rescued.

Outside of work she loves going on long drives to the mountains with her husband and dogs.

 Brittany & Titian

Brittany was born and raised in Las Vegas.  She when to Centennial High School and graduated in 2008.  She is now attending CSN - College Of Southern Nevada and will graduate in 2012 as a Licensed Veterinary Technician.

She has five cats named Bella, Gizmo, Lola, Jersey and Tiger and two dogs Max a Lab, and Benny a Terrier mix.

Brittney & Baxter

Brittney grew up in a small town in Louisiana, where High School Football was the way of life.

She moved to Las Vegas in July 2008 with her husband who is currently serving in our United States Air Force.

She graduated from Pima Medical Institute in May of 2010 and adores all furry critters. 

Her hobbies include hiking, swimming and anything outdoors.  She is an avid Colts fan loves watching their games.

In her free time she loves spending time with her baby girl Audrey born May 3, 2011.  She is the proud owner of two Siberian Huskies, Sugar and Zeus and a Tuxedo Cat named Dipstick.

Tina & Bear

Tina  grew up in Las Vegas and attended Black Hills State University.  She graduated from Pima Medical Institute Institute in September 2009.

In her spare time she loves going to Mt. Charleston and fishing.  She has a Leopard Gecko named Mr. Spot.

Laura  grew up in Ohio and moved to Las Vegas in 2002.   She graduated from Pima Medical Institute Institute in 2010.

In her spare time she likes camping, playing tennis, watching movies, reading and going to concerts.

She has mixed bread dog of Boxer, Beagle & Pug named Forest, she enjoys taking him to Red Rock Canyon when it's not to hot out.  She also has a cat named Lt. Dan that she calls Danny, he is a Siamese mix.  Two tortoises named Gump and Bubba, and a fish named Fish.

Shonna & Tank

Shonna was born and raised in Texas and moved to Las Vegas in 2002.  She went to PIMA Medical Institute to become a certified Veterinarian Assistant. 

She loves working at Camino Al Norte Animal Hospital and has been bringing her 3 dogs and 2 cats there since it opened. 

She has rescued all of her pets, Gracie a Lab Mix, Gunny & Tank Chihuahuas and Maddie & Grunt her cats.

Kelsey is a native, born and raised in Las Vegas and has lived here all of her life. She is currently going to Northwest Career and Tech Academy  to study Hospitality and Marketing.

She has 3 older brothers and she loves to go with them to the desert and ride quads in the Dunes, they also like to go target shooting.

Her family dog was a beautiful Golden Retriever named Rex who lived to be 16 years old.  

She has always had a love animals and wants to go to college to become a Veterinarian or a Vet Tech.

Kelsey recently adopted Baxter and he is the love of her life.

Twilight the hospital cat, is a Domestic Long Hair, 3 years old.  She loved sunning on the reception chairs and watching the traffic go by. 

Always ready for someone to sit down and pet her.

She has now retired and is living the purrrfect family life she deserves as the newest addition to Dr. Varela's family.
